FEAR
RIDES THE SUBWAY
Phantom Cat Terrorizes Passengers
By Ratsy OShea
NEW MOUSE CITYThe citizens of New Mouse City can no longer
hope it's just a rumor. The evidence is real. Real enough
to force the official closing of the entire subway system.
A gigantic phantom cat is haunting the subway tunnels of our
fair city!
On Monday, rodents said they could smell a cat at the Cheese
Rind station. On Tuesday, giant scratches were found on a
wall at the Scurryhill station. On Wednesday, huge cat footprints
were found at the Nibble Drive station. On Thursday, a reliable
witness reported seeing the shadow of an enormous cat at the
Curlyfur Court station. And today, extremely loud meowing
was heard at Singing Stone Plaza. But in spite of the many
witnesses to these happenings, the cat itself has never been
seen!
What kind of monster is it? Is it a flesh-and-blood creatureor
some kind of ghost? Where did it come from? Where in the subway
system does it hide?
There are many theories, but no reliable answers. The mayor,
the chief of police, and other city officials have a daring
plan to settle the matter once and for all. They believe they
can trap the beast. We wish them luck.
Meanwhile, an intrepid team from The Rodent's Gazette, led
by the fearless Thea Stilton and including the newspaper's not-so-fearless
publisher, Geronimo Stilton, plans to go underground to solve
the mystery. If they can't get to the bottom of this, nobody
can. But if they don't succeedwell, let's hope they're not
about to become cat food.
