NEW MOUSE
CITY It was a day like any other at the offices of New Mouse
Citys most famouse newspaper, The Rodents Gazette.
But all that changed when Geronimo Stilton, the Gazettes
editor-in-chief, made a shocking announcement: he had
sold the paper to Sally Ratmousen, the editor of The Daily
Rat.
The Gazette
is a family newspaper that was founded over fifty years
ago by William Shortpaws (also known as Cheap Mouse Willy).
For the past twenty years, the paper has been under the leadership
of his grandson, the kinder, gentler, fuzzier Geronimo Stilton.
So the news that it had been sold to a notorious crankrat
like Ms. Ratmousen was about as welcome as a cat in a mouse
motel.
The announcement
was just the beginning of the strange events at the Gazette.
Later that day, an impostor claiming he was the real
Geronimo Stilton appeared, and insisted that the newspaper
had been stolen from him. Paws off, Cheddarface! Stilton
shrieked at Stilton er, that is, at the real Stilton,
who was cowering inside the office.
Stiltons
sister, Thea, slammed the office door in the impostors snout,
shouting, Buzz off, Furface! leaving the impostor out in
the cold.
Later,
Ms. Stilton who is the Gazettes special correspondent
dismissed rumors that the impostor might be telling the
truth. Are you suggesting that I dont know my own brother?
she demanded. I would know that mouse anywhere. After all,
Geronimo is my fur and blood!
As for
Sally Ratmousen, she just scoffed. Tell it to some mouse
who cares. This paper is mine. Mine! MINE!!
