The Best New Children's Books of the Month

Nov 03, 2023

With so many great new books hitting the shelves this month, there's no better time to encourage your child to build a fall reading routine. Whether your child is exploring picture books, graphic novels, or young adult books, there are plenty of titles they won't want to miss. These books, which cover important themes like self-esteem and friendship among others, are full of rich narratives and unforgettable characters.

For instance, Angela Johnson and Dav Pilkey's Julius is perfect for young readers, and will help boost your child’s reading confidence and fluency. This hilariously charming story about a girl named Maya who is gifted a big, cool pig named Julius will teach kids about the importance of sharing through belly laughs.

Older readers will delight in The Bad Guys #18: The Bad Guys in Look Who's Talking. Forget everything you thought you knew about this best-selling series. Someone has found her voice and she's got LOTS to say! Your child will love all of the familiar shenanigans of The Bad Guys — but this time with a twist no one ever saw coming.

Meanwhile, Cat Kid fans rejoin the team of baby frogs and their mentors as they learn that one of their comics will be published in Cat Kid Comic Club #5: Influencers (out on 11/28!). When the group becomes filled with anxiety and doubt over their big break, so many new questions arise: Will Naomi or Melvin become their new leader? How will the little artists get their creativity back? Will Flippy convince everyone to get their act together?
