The Books Every Child Should Read In 2021

Jan 01, 2021

Whether your child is exploring picture books, graphic novels, or chapter books right now, there are a few choice titles they need as they start the new year. These books are the best of 2020, and cover important themes for all ages through rich narratives and unforgettable characters.

For instance, the picture book One Little Bag by Henry Cole follows the incredible story of an everyday brown bag, which finds its way from a tall tree growing in the forest to the hands of a young boy on the eve of his first day of school. In a three-generation family, the bag is a transporter of objects and keeper of memories, and shows the magic in being reused over and over again.

Slightly older readers will be enchanted by the chapter book The Way to Rio Luna by Zoraida Córdova, in which 11-year-old Danny has been separated from his sister Pili and placed in a foster home. However, he believes that magic is real and Pili is waiting for him somewhere in Rio Luna — the enchanted land from their favorite book of fairy tales. Soon, a mysterious book takes him on an adventure from New York to Ecuador to Brazil.
