Hooray, The Scholastic Book Fair is Here!

Around the country and world, Scholastic’s literacy events generate excitement for reading and revenues for schools

One of Scholastic’s best-known and best-loved businesses is Book Fairs, in-school events that bring the joy and excitement of reading right to students. With the look and feel of a bustling bookstore, these weeklong events feature mobile cases full of affordable books based on characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly-released books and best sellers to award-winning titles and perennial favorites, every book is hand-selected by Scholastic experts and chosen from more than 150 other publishers. Scholastic provides the books, planning tools and display cases for the events, which are run by volunteer parents, teachers, and school librarians.

Scholastic has been bringing books to schools for nearly 30 years, and today, the division is a global business, with operations in all 50 states as well as in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Thailand, and the U.K. The undisputed leader in the field, each year Book Fairs sells more than 100 million books to 35 million children visiting more than 160,000 fairs in preschool, elementary, and middle schools around the world.

Book Fairs also generates more than 175 million dollars in cash and educational resources for schools, which receive a portion of sales from every Book Fair they host. More importantly, the events provide students, teachers, and parents with access to thousands of affordable books and educational products.

“With every fair, we’re connecting kids to books they want to read,” says Alan Boyko, president of Scholastic Book Fairs. “That’s so important, because the more kids read, the better readers they become, and the more successful they’ll be in school, in work, and in life.”

Book Fairs employees—branch managers, product coordinators, sales reps, warehouse staff, and drivers—are passionate believers in Scholastic’s mission to help children become avid readers and lifelong learners. Their favorite sounds? The familiar cry, “Hooray! The Scholastic Book Fair is here!”
