Open a World of Possible: Book Memories and a Life-Changing Novel

Books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
on September 08, 2014

Books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Thanks to my mom who, on a very small budget and in a very small house, created a literate environment where books were revered and celebrated, my three sisters and I were raised as readers and are still readers today.

We talked about books. We collected books. We shared books and we borrowed books. Books and reading were a part of our every day since we were all small.

Though books speak differently to all of us, depending on what hat we're wearing and where we are in life, there's no denying the fact that one book found me at just the right time to really make a difference.

It's a book that I've read and re-read, that I've thought about long after the cover is closed. It's a book that forced me to look at the world differently. And it's a book that I feel everyone should read at some point in his or her life.

It's a book that has opened a world of possible for me and for so many others.

What are your book memories? What book—or books—have made a difference in your life, changed the way you thought, felt, or viewed the world around you?

We'd love to hear it! Share the ways that books have opened a world of possible for you in your life or check out what others have to say.

Share your thoughts on the Scholastic Parents Facebook page, or find Amy on Twitter, @teachmama, and let's continue the conversation!
