Village Prep, a Breakthrough Charter School, is located in the near east side of Cleveland, Ohio, in what was once an industrial factory. Randy Yates is the principal at the Village Prep. Kelly Foerg and Kelly Greene are reading coaches who provide professional support and assistance to teachers (and children) at Village Prep. During the 2017–2018 school year, Randy, Kelly, and Kelly, along with Tim Rasinski, studied the impact of a reading fluency instructional method called the Fluency Development Lesson (FDL) among first and second grade students. In both grade levels, students provided the FDL made significantly greater progress in reading achievement than a control group of students not receiving fluency instruction.
