Create a Friendship Poem Printable

Apr 26, 2018

When we have friends in our life, it's always nice to show our appreciation for them from time to time. Let the kids make friendship poems to share with their buddies. They'll make their friends feel special and build writing skills at the same time.

We have created a few acrostic poem templates for your kids to use. An acrostic poem is a poem where the first letter of each line spells out a word. For our friend poems, your child can use the FRIEND poem template or the name of their friend.

Acrostic poems are fun to write because they are short and easy to generate. It's a good way to introduce poetry writing to children who may feel that they can't write a poem.

To create an acrostic poem, write a word vertically down the side of the page. Next, generate a word, phrase, or sentence for each letter. The text should describe the chosen word.  Here is an example for friend:

Fun to be around
Rreliable
Interesting
Easy-going
Nice to everyone
Ddetermined

Here is an example using the name Tricia:

Truthful
Responsible
Interesting
Careful
Important
Aauthentic

Once the poem is finished, it's time to make a special delivery to the friends your kids decided to honor.

Don't just write acrostic poems with the kids, read a few too. Try these titles:

Once your kids catch the acrostic poem writing bug, they will be generating poetry on lots of different topics. Keep the poetry writing going with these ideas: write rainbow-inspired poetry with your kids or create mystery poems as a family.
