A chill is in the air, pumpkins are waiting to be carved, and soon trick-or-treaters will be knocking at our door. It’s the perfect time of year to cozy up with a spooky story and a cup of hot cider.

This “Roll a Spooky Story” printable gives kids the opportunity to practice reading and writing while getting ready for Halloween. Fill in the blanks and enjoy reading the completed story together.

As your kids roll the die, they’ll be eager to discover the direction their spooky story will head. Will they carve pumpkins or make caramel apples? Who will answer the door of the haunted house — a witch or a skeleton? Will they need to retrieve a cauldron or a broomstick?

With 60 different spooky words and phrases, players are bound to create a slightly scary and ever-so-silly tale every time you play. With so many possible outcomes, this is an activity kids can play (and read!) again and again. All those repeated readings will help build their fluency — so keep the die rolling and find out your Halloween fate.

Happy playing and happy Halloween: Download "Roll a Spooky Story," and let the spooky storytelling begin!
