Introduce your kids to the kitchen with this easy, no-bake recipe! Not only will you have some delicious edible cookie dough at the end, but the kids will secretly be practicing fractions as they help measure ingredients.

Recipe:

Rrraw-some Cookie Dough from Kids Cooking

Makes 24 servings

Prep time: 30 minutes

Wait time: At least a few hours

You will need:

  • 1 cup quick oats

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup butter

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • Food processor

  • Saucepan

  • Mixing bowl

  • Whisk

  • Melon baller, ice cream scoop, or spoon

Instructions:

  1. PARENTS DO THIS STEP! Pour the oats into a food processor, put the cover on, and pulse until you get fine grains, like flour. Pour the “oat flour” into a mixing bowl and whisk in the salt.

  2. PARENTS DO THIS STEP! Set a saucepan over low heat, and melt the butter with both sugars. Use your whisk to help the sugar dissolve. (Or you can heat it in a microwave-safe bowl for 30-second bursts at a low setting.)

  3. Take the saucepan off the heat, then stir in the milk. Stir the butter mixture into the finely ground oatmeal. Cover the bowl and let it sit in the fridge so the oats absorb the liquid. (Waiting overnight will make a softer dough, but it’s OK to taste test before it’s done.)

  4.  Let your dough sit out until it’s just soft enough to fold in the chocolate chips. Use a melon baller or spoon to help shape the dough into bite-size pieces.
