Picture Books You Will Love

Feb 06, 2014

I use all holidays as excuses for bringing new books from the library and a few from the bookstore home for my kids. I have always believed that giving books as gifts is a wonderful way to make reading special. Here are 9 Valentine's Day-themed books that make great gifts and will be enjoyed much longer than any box of heart-shaped chocolates.

The Day It Rained Hearts, by Felcia Bond, is a wonderful book to spark creativity and will inspire your children to make homemade Valentines just like Cornelia does in the book.

Love Monster, by Rachel Bright, is a book about being loved for who you are even if you are different from everyone else.

Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink, by Diane de Groat, is a Valentine's Day book with a deeper message. This book is about making amends when you cause hurt feelings.

Valentine's Day Is by Gail Gibbons. Ever wonder what Valentine's Day is all about? You can dive into this nonfiction picture book with your kids and find out.

Where Is Baby's Valentine? by Karen Katz never seems to get packed away at our house and is read all year long. Babies and toddlers will adore this bright and cheerful lift-the-flap book.

Happy Valentine's Day, Little Critter by Mercer Mayer is a favorite at our house. It's a simple story with a warm reminder of who Little Critter's special Valentine really is.

Be Mine, by Brenda Ponnay, is a sweet and simple book filled with lovely little pictures and even sweeter sayings that are perfect for Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day, by Anne Rockwell, is a sweet book about friendship, even when you are far away.

Splat the Cat: Funny Valentine, by Rob Scotton, is a fun lift-the-flap book that will hit your funny bone and your heart.
