Shop 'n Learn
A grocery store is teeming with learning opportunities for your child. From money counting to weights and measures, guide your child to focus on fun tasks instead of sweet snacks. First stop is the produce scale. Let your children decide how much broccoli or grapes they think you need for the family and have them weigh the group. Let them read the weight; then help them figure out how much that amount would cost. Allow them to gently push the cart—it helps teach coordination and responsibility. At checkout, hand them the items and let them place them in an orderly fashion on the belt. Make it even more fun by asking kids to guess the total at the end of your trip.
