Mix Up Concoctions to Test Some Principles

This hands-on science experiment will engage your child's sensory skills. First, secure a surface with a protective material, like newspaper, an old shower curtain, or garbage bags that are cut open to lay flat. Then, set out small quantities of vegetable oil, dishwashing liquid, milk, flour, and salt in various plastic containers. Also have empty cups and a bowl of water handy. Scoop out some water into a bowl, and ask your preschooler to mix in a bit of one of the other items. Ask questions like, “what do you think will happen to the oil in the water?”
