Investigating Your Shadow

You may have already showed your child her shadow when you’re out on a sunny day. Now play with it a bit, challenging her to experiment with shadow play. Can she make shapes with her hands, such as a rabbit? What kind of shadow does a ball or a hula-hoop  make? What about stop signs? Show her how it works – where the sun has to be in relation to her or an object for it to cast a shadow. Observe together how the shadow of something big, like your house or car, “moves” throughout the day as the sun crosses the sky.
