Cut a slit in the cover of a plastic storage container, and fill it with objects (avoid choking-hazard size) your child can use as pretend money. She’ll begin to connect the idea of tokens or coins as things to count up and that have value. As she gets older, assign value to things like books and “pay” for them with the right amount of tokens.
