Phoebe and the Spelling Bee

Phoebe and the Spelling Bee

by Barney Saltzberg

Phoebe doesn't want to be a part of her class's weekly spelling bee. And so she does everything she can not to study: she pretends she has a stomach ache; she makes paper airplanes out of her long spelling list. But when Phoebe lies to her friend Katie about not studying for the bee, she feels so bad that she changes her mind and hits the books. Will Phoebe's creative way of remembering words help her become the next "Queen Spelling Bee?"

This is a cheerful and cautionary tale about a young girl who learns why it is important not to lie - no matter how tempting it can be.
