Each volume of this series describes a different habitat or biome around the world, including freshwater, saltwater, coral reefs, the chaparral, tundras, grasslands, and savannas. Each habitat is described as the fragile ecosystem that it is. All give examples of how humankind has practically lost the habitats, and things being done to restore them. Text is concise, and photographs adequately illustrate flora and fauna of each habitat.

Large print, sidebars, and captions assist even reluctant readers in grasping the text. These uncluttered, easy-to-read, basic overviews will be useful and interesting for middle school students studying biomes and habitats. Each volume has a helpful glossary, sources for additional information, organizations to contact, notes on sources, with indices.
