About the Author and Illustrator

Cynthia Rylant Award-winning children's author Cynthia Rylant didn't discover great writing until college. Soon after, she was inspired to write her own beautiful story, When I Was Young in the Mountains .
Diane Goode Diane was born in New York City. Since 1974, she has created the paintings for more than 30 children's books, including the Caldecott Honor Book When I Was Young in the Mountains by Cynthia Rylant.
