Have Kids Make a Bouquet of Compliments for Mother's Day

Use simple supplies to create a keepsake bouquet blooming with reasons that Mom is the best.
on May 10, 2018

Mother's Day is near and the kids want to make something special to give the most important woman in their life. A few simple supplies can be transformed into a keepsake that mom will always treasure.

Let the kids build a bouquet of blooming compliments for mom. Not only will they have a unique and personalized gift, but the children will strengthen fine motor skills and get a little writing practice too. Cutting out the flowers in this activity builds hand strength and writing the compliments on the flowers works on penmanship and spelling.

Gather the supplies below and set aside 20-30 minutes to work on completing the project.

What You'll Need

  • Construction paper (variety of colors)
  • Craft sticks (5-10)
  • Green marker, crayon, or paint
  • Black fine-tip permanent marker
  • 1 medium jar, cup, or can
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Ribbon or yarn (optional)

What to Do

Step 1: Cut 5-10 flowers from the construction paper. Make sure that they are big enough to write on for the next step. Encourage the kids to step outside into nature for color and design inspiration.

Step 2: On each flower write or draw something that is special about mom. Kind, funny, helpful, beautiful, smart, and understanding are just some of the words the children could use.

Step 3: Color or paint each craft stick green.

Step 4: Attach each flower bloom to a green stem using the glue stick.

Step 5: Place all of the flowers inside the vase (jar, cup, or can). Add a ribbon or yarn bow.

Time to deliver the love bouquet to mom! Chances are that she'll clear a spot on a desk or shelf to display this thoughtful gift to treasure for years to come.
