Here’s a truth every parent knows: Headbands are one of the easiest and cheapest ways to pull off a costume. But what’s the fun in just plopping one on your little one’s head and calling it a day?
We recently got a few of our kids together at the Scholastic Parents HQ for a headband-making party to prep for Halloween. We know what you’re thinking: That sounds hard. We thought so, too, at first! But we’re not talking about complicated Pinterest headbands that you (attempt to) craft for hours, before defeatedly pulling out the dusty Halloween costume your kid has worn for the past two years.
To make it easy, we used the Klutz Jr. My Fun & Fuzzy Headband Salon, which actually gives kids the chance to make three headband designs all on their own! We decided to jazz it up with cute, easy designs from the Klutz Face Painting kit — because, why not?
Our little ones were so excited to get started, mostly because they adored the three characters they could make from the headband kit: a unicorn, a bear, and a kitty cat. The kit comes with one headband and attachments for each animal, so kids can make their favorite one or swap out parts to mix it up whenever they want.
Four-year-old Angela was excited about the unicorn headband because it matched her favorite rainbow dress. To make this design, kids twist a pink fuzzy stick around a shimmery rainbow horn (the kit comes with a hair clip to easily attach it to the headband), and use foam beads and sparkly fuzzies to slide on unicorn ears.
