Makes 25 to 30 cookies

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp milk

  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Sift 1½ cups flour with baking powder and salt into a large bowl.
  2. In another bowl, cream the butter with an electric mixer. Beat in sugar, egg, vanilla, and milk with a whisk attachment.
  3. Slowly stir in flour mixture. Add remaining flour a little at a time until the dough is stiff enough to roll out. Flatten dough into a disk and chill for at least two hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  5. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to about ?"; cut out shapes.
  6. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets for 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool on the sheet for a couple of minutes, then transfer to a rack.
  7. Whisk the glaze ingredients together till smooth; for thinner glaze, add more milk. Drizzle or brush on the cookies.
