Supporting Conversations with Students around Events at the U.S. Capitol

Since the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, we have heard directly from teachers regarding their range of concerns, as well as genuine interest, in getting help for their students to understand these unsettling events. Scholastic is privileged to serve educators and has released classroom magazine articles and resources for all grade levels, to support these important conversations in an age-appropriate, unbiased way. We invite you to make use of them with your students and families. You can find them here.

Every day in our nation’s classrooms, there are children and teachers who need help with the important social and personal issues of the day. In supporting them, we are carrying out the precious and invaluable role we have always played as a resource and partner. We are renewed in our 100-year mission of supporting civics education in the classroom and better preparing students to become informed, active citizens as adults. We stand by our credo, which includes our belief in the democratic way of life, and in the fair discussion of all sides of the issues of our times.
