These 12 Healthy Habit Lessons can help you reinforce healthier habits among your students. They are designed for the teacher (but can also be a fun project for parents).

Try these three groups of lessons and educational activities that are designed for different ages and can help teach children:

Kindergarten to 1st Grade
Fair Share
This sorting activity helps students identify everyday items that are either “OK to Share” or “Not OK to Share”
Shake Those Germs
Students gain a greater understanding of how germs are spread and the importance of hand washing with this hands-on activity
2nd and 3rd Grades
Now You See It, Now You Don’t
Emphasize the importance of keeping shared surfaces clean with this activity that teaches students that germs can even live on a surface that doesn’t look dirty
4th and 5th Grades
Healthy Habits Time Tally
Students record the amount of time they spend on various daily routines, then graph and compare their habits with others in the class
Kindergarten to 1st Grade
Soap Sculptures
Students create soap sculptures and then take their masterpieces home to practice healthy hand washing techniques
2nd and 3rd grades
Every Day I...
Students will learn about and discuss the importance of healthy habits, such as washing hands, eating fruits and vegetables, getting enough sleep, etc.
4th and 5th grades
Code Blue Ribbon
Students create and crack simple codes to reveal healthy habits messages about hand washing and other smart ways to stay well all school year
Kindergarten to 1st Grade
An Apple a Day
Students learn about healthy habits by creating a class tree filled with their own ideas of what it means to be healthy
2nd and 3rd grades
Stay Well Cards
Students create “Stay Well” cards for each other that illustrate ways to avoid getting sick
Healthy Habits Placemat
Students create laminated placemats for snacks or meals that include a healthy habits checklist reminding them to wash hands, brush teeth, eat breakfast, etc.
4th and 5th grades
My Healthy Hero
Students write a five-paragraph essay about a person at your school who is a role-model for healthy habits
Healthy Habits Storybook
Students collaborate on creative stories with a beginning, middle, and end that reinforce healthy habits
