This homemade clay keepsake leaves a lasting impression.

What you need:

  • flour
  • salt
  • water
  • food coloring
  • paint
  • paint brushes

What to do:

  1. Make a batch of homemade clay: Mix 4 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and 1¾ cups warm water in a bowl. Knead the mixture for five to ten minutes.
  2. Add food coloring to the clay if desired.  
  3. Press out the clay into a flat cookie shape, and invite your child to press his hand into it, leaving a print.  
  4. Let it dry and decorate with paint. Give it to a grandparent, family friend, relative — or simply keep it for yourself.
