If your little girl can’t wait to tag along on your mani/pedi appointments, she’s going to love whipping up these easy kid-friendly spa treatments with you, too. So grab your fluffiest robes and slippers, and get ready for an afternoon of sweet and relaxing fun.
Gentle Rose Petal Foot Scrub
Unlike a salt scrub — which can strip the skin of natural oils — a sugar scrub has granules that are small, hydrating, and gentle on the skin.
- 1 cup white sugar (substitute for brown sugar for younger children or those with sensitive skin)
- 1/4 cup oil (baby, olive, almond, or vegetable)
- 1 Tbsp vitamin E oil
- Petals of one rose
Stir sugar and oils together. Place the sugar mixture and rose petals into a blender or food processor; blend until fully incorporated. Apply the scrub to damp skin. Rinse with cool water, and follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
Chocolate Face Mask
Oatmeal is a skin super-soother: It relieves dryness and itchiness; absorbs oil; and fights bacteria that can cause tween acne. Adding cocoa powder makes this good-for-you remedy feel — and smell! — decadent.
- 1/3 cup plain oatmeal
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp plain yogurt
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
Combine oatmeal and water; let the mixture sit for a couple of minutes to thicken. Stir in honey, yogurt, and cocoa. Apply to face and let dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
DIY Deep Conditioner
Honey locks in moisture, while vitamin-rich avocados reduce dryness and breakage. Together, they are the perfect recipe for happy, healthy hair.
- 1 medium avocado
- 2 Tbsp honey
Halve your avocado, remove pit, scoop the fruit into a bowl, and mash with a fork. Add honey and mix well. Apply to dry or damp hair and leave in for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Bath Bombs
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- 2 tsp essential oil (choose your favorite scent!)
- 2 tsp olive oil
- Food coloring (optional)
Whisk dry ingredients together before adding in the oils and food coloring. Mix thoroughly. Using a sprayer filled with water, start spritzing your mixture until the contents clump together and have the feel of wet sand. Line a cupcake pan with liners, and pack mixture into the mold as tightly as possible. Let dry for at least five hours or overnight.
Cucumber Lemonade Popsicles
The best part of going to a spa? Sipping flavored water while lounging about in your bathrobe. Recreate that experience with these kid-friendly ice pops you’ll both enjoy.
- 2 cucumbers
- 1 to 2 lemons, juiced
- 2 cups water
- Fresh mint leaves, chopped (optional)
- Sugar to taste
Peel cucumbers and slice in half lengthwise; scoop out the seeds. Chop cucumber into small pieces. Squeeze lemons into the water and remove any stray seeds. Combine the cucumber, water mixture, and mint ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. Sweeten to taste. Pour the puree into ice pop molds. Freeze.
