An adult needs to pitch in to melt the chocolate — then, kids can assemble this weatherproof snowman all by themselves!
Supplies
- Scissors
- Toothpicks
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 2 regular marshmallows
- 1 chocolate wafer cookie (such as Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers)
- 2 black nonpareils
- 6–8 black sugar pearls
- 1 orange gumdrop
- 1 jumbo marshmallow
- 1 piece of rainbow-striped sour belt candy (such as AirHeads Xtremes Rainbow Berry Sour Belts)
- 1 white frosted cupcake
Directions
1. To make the hat, melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler. Drop one regular marshmallow into the melted chocolate and roll it around with a fork until it’s coated. Lift the marshmallow out of the chocolate with the fork and let the excess drip back into the bowl or pot. Carefully center it, flat side down, on the chocolate wafer cookie. Refrigerate to harden.
2. Build the head by cutting a very thin sliver off the flat bottom of the remaining regular marshmallow. (That sticky bottom will be the bottom of the head.) Use a toothpick to poke five holes, two for eyes and three or four for the mouth. With the now-sticky toothpick, pick up the nonpareils (for eyes) and sugar pearls (for the mouth), and push them into the holes.
3. Use the toothpick to dig a bigger hole for the nose. Cut an angled piece off the orange gumdrop for the carrot nose. Roll it between your fingers to make it pointy. Cut a sliver off the wide end of the nose so that it is sticky, and push it into the hole in the head.
4. To make the torso, poke three holes into the jumbo marshmallow for the buttons. Use the toothpick to pick up sugar pearls and push them into each hole.
5. Press the head onto the body. Put a dab of melted chocolate on top of the head and attach the hat on top.
6. Cut a strip of the sour belt candy in half along the length and tie it around the snowman’s neck for a scarf.
7. Put the snowman on top of the frosted cupcake and press in. Place another sugar pearl “button” onto the frosting.
