5 Nature Crafts for Kids

Shell Friends
Turn seashore treasures into cute critters to perch on your kid’s dresser. If you have a still-attached clamshell, use craft glue to attach small googly eyes inside the gap to create a “peeping” appearance. Or challenge your child to use a variety of different types of shells to assemble an imaginary creature.

Apple Stamps
Slice a few apples in half to create instant stamps! Just slather on paint, then have the kids create a pattern on sheets of paper (perfect for gifts); or use fabric paint and have them design their own T-shirts or canvas totes. They’ll be so proud to show off their handiwork.

Leaf Pals
Twigs make perfect arms and legs for little leaf creatures. Use craft glue to attach the twigs and googly eyes to leaves, and then sketch a smile with a marker.

Eggshell Planters
Don’t toss your eggshells! They’re a great place to plant seedlings. Simply fill about halfway with potting soil, and add a seed (try a fast-grower like basil). Once the seed sprouts, gently crush the shell and transfer the whole thing to the garden — the shell will provide healthy nutrients for the soil.

Striped Sticks
Arm kids with yarn or paint in bright hues and let them go to town creating stripes on twigs or driftwood. Then, assemble the collection in a glass vase for a cheerful, kid-created centerpiece.
