Early Chapter Books About Thanksgiving

Editor's note: This post was originally published on November 6, 2014.

Thanksgiving is supposed to be about gathering together and sharing, but we all need a little alone time after big family gatherings, especially kids. Instead of jumping for the TV or arguing over which movies to watch, hand your kids some fun books about Thanksgiving.

Some of these books dive into history, some are modern-day mysteries, and some are focused on the heart of the holiday. All will capture your child's attention and give you a way to sneak in some learning between football and pumpkin pie. Who knows, you might end up learning a little more about the holiday in the process.

Here are 9 great early chapter books (grades 1-4) about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Thief (Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew) by Carolyn Keene

Ready, Freddy! #15: Thanksgiving Turkey Trouble by Abby Klein

Don't Be Such a Turkey (Katie Kazoo) by Nancy Krulik

Magic Tree House Thanksgiving on Thursday by Mary Pope Osborne

Junie B. Jones First Grader: Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten (and Other Thankful Stuff) by Barbara Park
