10+ Awesome Earth Day Books for Preschoolers

Apr 01, 2024

Every day we teach our kids about caring for the environment when they see us putting cardboard into the recycling bin, using scrap paper for grocery lists, and opting for a resuable water bottle instead of buying bottled water.

Sharing a mix of fiction and nonfiction books about the earth can help make sense of how to care for our planet in a fun way kids can understand. These books are a great way to start conversations about our environment, and they're perfect for Earth Day and beyond!

For example, The Ocean Is Kind of a Big Deal is a thoughtful and delightfully illustrated picture book about all of the ways the ocean takes care of us. From providing us with food to creating oxygen and even cooling us off in the summer, the ocean does so much good. Learning how to take care of the oceans through cleaning up litter to helping combat pollution will help inspire kids to do their part.

In There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Worm!, kids will follow along the hilarious journey of the silly Old Lady as she swallows all things earth, including a worm, some dirt, some flowers, and so much more! This uproarious book brings an Earth Day twist to the classic rhyme that will get kids laughing as they learn to take care of the earth.

Meanwhile, To Change a Planet is a moving story written in verse that gently sheds a light on the root causes of climate change and what we can do to reverse it. With a soothing, calm tone and eye-catching beautiful illustrations, kids will love the message of hope and small ways they can help the planet on a daily basis.
