Author Dav Pilkey Visits NBC’s TODAY

Dav Pilkey on TODAY

Author Dav Pilkey stopped by NBC’s TODAY show to talk about his new Dog Man book, the upcoming Captain Underpants Manga and his initiative with Scholastic to fund classroom libraries.

On the heels of Dog Man: Big Jim Believes becoming a worldwide bestseller, Pilkey shared the inspiration behind his latest book.

“It all goes back to my childhood. I had a lot of challenges when I was a kid. I had dyslexia and what they now call ADHD. And I remember coming home from school feeling so discouraged, but I was so lucky because my mom is one of the most positive people in my life, and she always believed that something good could come out of anything, so the book is kind of based on that. It’s sort of a love letter to my mom and all parents really,” Pilkey said.

Pilkey also shared an exclusive first look at Captain Underpants: The First Epic Manga which will be released in April 2026.

Finally, Pilkey shared that he is teaming up with Scholastic ClassroomsCount™ to fund books and teaching resources for teachers in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia.
