Caitlin Clark Hosts Back-to-School Events with Scholastic in Indianapolis and Des Moines

Caitlin Clark in Indianapolis at book event

The Caitlin Clark Foundation, as part of its collaboration with Scholastic, hosted two back-to-school events, providing essential school supplies, backpacks and books to students in Indianapolis and Des Moines.

On July 25, Clark visited Northwest Middle School, part of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), with her Foundation. As part of the event, each participating student had the opportunity to select two books of their choosing from Scholastic's diverse collection, ensuring every child could find stories that spark their interest and imagination. Judy Newman, Scholastic’s Chief Impact Officer, was in attendance to support the book giveaway. Students also received a backpack filled with school supplies from the Caitlin Clark Foundation and headphones from Eli Lilly and Company.

A few days later, Clark visited McCombs Middle School in Des Moines. Again students were given the opportunity to select their own books from Scholastic’s collection to go along with a backpack from the Foundation, a water bottle from Gatorade and food from Meals of the Heartland.

The Indiana Fever star created the Foundation in part to empower youth through education and literacy. The collaboration between the Foundation and Scholastic demonstrates a shared commitment to education equity and ensuring all students have access to quality books and learning materials. By allowing students to choose their books, the initiative recognizes that personal interest and choice are key drivers in developing lifelong reading habits.

“We are inspired by Caitlin Clark and her Foundation’s dedication to increasing book access and ensuring all kids are able to choose and own books that they are motivated to read,” said Judy Newman. “Caitlin understands that motivation is key to building literacy skills and that reading leads to self-confidence, and it is thrilling to be here in Indianapolis where she is using her voice to inspire all kids to see themselves as readers.”
