Crowning Achievements at the Book Fair

Submitted by Excelsior Springs Middle School in Excelsior Springs, MO

Students at Excelsior Springs Middle School treat the Book Fair like royalty, but this year, 10 lucky students were crowned, too.

As part of the school’s All for Books campaign, students created a contest where students submitted essays explaining why they should be crowned the King or Queen of the Book Fair. Students delivered speeches and classmates voted by donating money to All for Books.

The students who received the most donations were crowned King and Queen, but the true honor was donating books purchased with the nearly $800 raised to their local Good Samaritan Center for the holidays.

Everyone celebrated in high fashion at a schoolwide assembly where the King and Queen got silly stringed by a teacher who made a machine that would do several cans of string at the same time!
