Robots are fascinating to adults and kids alike, and for good reason: They're cool, and can accomplish remarkable tasks. From smaller robots that help around the house (like vacuums) to complex machines in hospitals, all the way to the humanlike, expressive robots in movies and television shows, robots are a great way to introduce your students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Let these thrilling books about robots lead the way into STEM concepts! Whether you’re studying robots through engaging nonfiction before taking on your own robotics projects in class with older students, or sharing a sweet story about robots building the alphabet, robot books are a surefire hit with all age groups.

With younger students, you can read aloud Boy + Bot, a story with colorful illustrations about a boy and robot who become friends. But when the robot powers off, the boy becomes worried after the normal remedies like applesauce and reading a book don’t seem to make him feel better. The situations flip when the boy falls asleep and the robot powers back on, he also worries about his friend. Robot takes the boy home and tries his own tried-and-true remedies, like oil and even rereading instruction manuals, but nothing seems to work. Can the inventor help fix the boy so they can continue to play?

Young readers will also enjoy the hilarious Rabbit and Robot: The Sleepover, a tale packed with laughs and hijinks as Rabbit invites his friend Robot to a sleepover. Things don’t go quite as planned, however — the list of fun things Rabbit had in mind don’t really work. For instance, Rabbit wanted to make a pizza together, but Robot only likes to eat nuts and bolts. Will these two mismatched friends find ways to make their sleepover the best one ever?

Meanwhile, older readers will love exploring series like Ricky Ricotta and Press Start! Full of adventure and memorable characters, these titles bring the future of robotics to life.

Nonfiction lovers in grades 3 and up will lose themselves in the pages of titles like Robonauts and Robotics, which explore both robotics and technology.
