How to Sustain a Long Writing Career and Live to Tell the Tail
30 minutes plus Q&A
This begins when Spencer Quinn was known only as Peter Abrahams, kicking off with his mom’s realization that he had the makings of a writer—he was 4 at the time—and how she taught him all he knows about writing. He talks about some of his groundbreaking crime novels–including Oblivion and The Fan; how he became Stephen King’s favorite American suspense writer; and how he fell into writing from a canine point of view, which led to his morphing into Spencer Quinn, the NYT bestselling Chet and Bernie series, and finally a marriage of cat and dog narration in the middle-grade Queenie and Arthur novels.
Spence is happy to drop in on your classroom via Skype for half an hour to take questions from you and your students regarding any book of his you’re reading or have read. In addition—if asked—he can offer a writing tip or two that will help the class in their written work.
