The Power of Green program reinforces language arts, math, and science skills while exploring tips for conserving energy and recycling, and teaching about electric and gas safety.
Students can spread awareness about energy conservation at home with this poster project.
Skills supporting learning standards: creating artwork to demonstrate a topic, theme, or concept
1. Ask students: What does it mean to "Go Green"? (reuse, reduce, recycle, save the planet, save energy, etc.) What are some ways that you save energy at home? (turn off the lights, unplug chargers and appliances, use CFL bulbs, etc.)
2. Distribute copies of the student worksheet. Tell students that the Splice Girls and other characters from Con Edison care a lot about going green and saving energy. They're asking school kids to help them design a poster to get people to save energy.
3. Discuss each energy-saving tip, and allow students time to complete their posters, then share them with the class.
