- Please Try to Remember the First of Octember! by Dr. Seuss
- Cash register tape
- Writing pencils
Cut the register tape into strips, about 25" in length, one per student.
Step 1: After reading the story through once, return to the page in the book where the boy is creating his Octember wish list. Read through the list with students.
Step 2: Have students take on the role of the boy, using a piece of register tape and pencil to create their own list.
Supporting All Learners
For young children, it may be helpful to review the months of the year, drawing attention to the fact that Octember is an imaginary month.
Have students create other types of lists. Some lists might include favorite foods, favorite books, students in class, and types of sandwiches.
