- Pie in the Sky by Lois Ehlert
- red colored paper, cut into cherry sized circles (55 per student)
- glue sticks
- 8 1/2" X 11" white paper cut into quarters (11 pieces per student)
Set Up and PrepareStaple the sets of 11 paper quarters along the edge to create small books. Starting on the first page, not the cover, write the numbers 1 through 10.
If you want the book to have a title, you will need to decide if you will write it on the covers, or if you will have your students write it.
Have students write their name on the cover of their book. Turning to the first page, featuring the number 1, students should glue on one paper cherry. On the page featuring the number two, they should glue on two paper cherries, and so on. After the cherries have had a chance to dry, give students time to read their books.
Supporting All Learners
Show students how to bring the red circles up to the glue stick. This stops students from rubbing glue on the table, or gluing their pages together.
Try preparing the books, but have students write the numbers.
