As students begin to understand fiction and nonfiction, introduce the genre of historical fiction which includes examples of both. These lessons and activities show you how.
INDIVIDUAL PROJECT: Art for the Story
Ask students to imagine they've been asked to draw three big, full-color illustrations for a new edition of My Brother Sam Is Dead. The illustrations should show just three of the many exciting and important events in the story. Ask students to review the book, select and draw their illustrations, and write brief captions that tell what is happening.
