Divide students into teams of no more than five people. Distribute the Product-Pitch Directions sheets to the groups and explain the requirements of the project. Then distribute magazines and the Product-Pitch development sheet. Allow students to brainstorm product ideas for the remainder of the class using the magazines to help develop ideas.
At the end of every class over the next ten days of this lesson, each group should write down what they accomplished during the period and what they intend to accomplish the next day.
Teams should use this class period to meet and complete the Product-Pitch development sheet which will be collected at the end of the class period.
Teams should plan the visual presentation of their product, coming up with a list of materials they'll need. In addition, teams use Day 3 to discuss and begin designing their magazine ad.
On this day, teams should begin or continue building the visual representation of the product and continue designing the magazine ad. (You may want to require that they complete the product representation before beginning on the ad, or you may want to keep it more fluid, as their thoughts on one will inform their thoughts on the other.)
Teams should finish building the visual representation of their new product and designing the magazine ad.
Distribute the Product-Pitch Presentation rubric and discuss it with the students. Students should begin developing the script for the presentation.
Have the students continue and complete script development. They should also use this day to practice their oral presentations.

Supporting All Learners
Make sure the groups you choose are balanced in terms of really good public speakers and the shy students. Make sure no one group consists of all one type. Meet with each group for a few minutes each day to see how they are working together and to provide any assistance they may need.
Go home and discuss your group's product with those who live with you. Ask them if they have any ideas that could make your product better. Share your new information with your group.
