Students will "use a variety of forms or genres when writing for different audiences." --Massachusetts English/Language Arts Curriculum Framework
- The Everything Book by Denise Fleming
- colored pencils
- writing pencils
- composition books (1 per student)
- chart paper
Set Up and Prepare
To make the composition books more durable, run a strip or two of duct tape down the spine.
Talk to students about the pages that depict labeled illustrations. Explain that students will be creating their own themed illustrations in their composition books. Generate a list of possible themes, and record them on the chart paper. Themes might include breakfast time, lunchtime, dinnertime, bedtime, recess, kitchen, car, ocean, etc.
Students can create a poster based on their favorite page from their "Everything Book" to post in the classroom.
