Lesson Plan
All About Me! Activity Plan
Creating an All About Me book helps children uncover deeper understandings of themselves and others.
Grades
PreK–K
Objectives
Students will:
- Create individual books about themselves to encourage literacy, creative thinking, and social awareness
Lesson Resources
Materials
- Drawing paper
- Stapler
- Pencils, markers, and crayons (include skin-tone markers and crayons)
- Child safety scissors
- Glue sticks
- Old magazines
Directions
Step 1: Invite children to each make a book titled "All About Me". Explain that they can use both drawings and pictures from magazines. Each day they will create a different page. Children can use some of the following topics:
This is me. |
This is my family and me. |
This is my favorite pet. |
This is my favorite outfit. |
This is my favorite outdoor activity |
This is my favorite food. |
This is my favorite thing to do at school. |
This is what I want to be when I grow up. |
This is my favorite book. |
Step 2: Provide children with the suggested art materials. Some children may prefer to use pictures from old magazines instead of drawings.
Step 3: Before binding the book, send a sheet of drawing paper home with children to create drawings with their family members to add to their books.
Step 4: Ask all the children to make a cover page for their books. Assist them in writing the title "All About Me" and their names on the cover. Provide drawing or collage materials to decorate their covers.
Step 5: Plan a time to invite family members to listen to children's stories. Place the books in the library area for children to read alone or with a friend.
Lesson Extensions
Tell children that they will create a chart to calculate their favorite things. Ask them to think of four categories for the chart, such as favorite cereals, songs, or books. Write the categories at the top of a sheet of paper. Divide each category into columns. Record their responses for each category and review them. Then, ask children to calculate the most popular item for each category.
