These days, we’re all more aware than ever of the people who keep society running. That’s why it’s the perfect time to teach your students about all the helpers and workers who are essential to our everyday lives. Assembled by education experts, this Community Helpers Pack features 45 pages of social studies and reading materials, writing exercises, fun activities, manipulatives, songs, and games. It’s a great way to supplement your lessons, whether learning is happening in the classroom or at home. The pack comes with teaching guidance—so set up is quick and easy and you’ll have everything you need for a unit on this timely topic!

Kick off learning with a thematic song to introduce kids to some community helpers—such as grocers, teachers, doctors, nurses, firefighters, and police—and the jobs they do. Students will build vocabulary with English and Spanish mini-book dictionaries that contain illustrated support for each word, then move on to learning more about essential workers and their jobs with the read-and-write books Meet Community Helpers and Who Helps?

Kids can read and work independently with practice pages that extend learning and then play learning games together (or with family members). Games include a modified Go-Fish game, a matching game, and a riddle activity. Writing activities, mini-books, and projects round out the pack and cover more essential workers, including bus drivers, librarians, garbage collectors, and mechanics.
