Today is Freddy’s lucky day. It’s St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday full of green and gold. Children who don’t wear green to school will get pinched by Max the bully, so Freddy makes sure to put on his green shark shirt. St. Patrick’s Day is a time for art and craft projects, for learning about Ireland, and for stories about leprechauns.
It’s good luck to catch a leprechaun, but it is also very hard because they are smart and fast. But this doesn’t stop Freddy and his friends from trying. During recess, they look under the slide and dig in the sandbox. Leprechauns really are good at hiding, but as Freddy learns, they are also good at surprising!
This winning, accessible story follows a down-to-earth first grader and his friends during one very lucky day at school.
