Kevin”s Uncle Ned isn”t quite like the other relatives he has known. Instead of having an ordinary hobby like gardening, or baseball, Uncle Ned has devoted himself to bringing the dead back to life. When the orphaned and accident-prone Kevin has exhausted his stay at the homes of various relatives, he is eventually sent to live with his strange Uncle Ned. From the moment Kevin arrives, he senses that this time things will be different, as Uncle Ned welcomes Kevin into his lab. Unfortunately, Kevin immediately proceeds to mess up Ned”s experiment, but instead of yelling or kicking Kevin out, Ned merely suggests they both have some hot cocoa. After their break, the two find that Kevin”s mistake has gone a bit further than they”d realized when all the inhabitants of the cemetery up on the hill start busting out of their graves.
The author of The Accidental Monster series has once again given readers a hilariously spooky tale. The relationship between Kevin and his uncle lends a poignant touch, and readers will quickly turn pages as the two flee the angry, come-to-life dead for a series of madcap adventures on the road. Trouble and sticky situations abound in each chapter, and Eric Brace”s soft, delightful drawings intensify the comedy. In the end, the unlikely duo find their way into the clear and Kevin declares that life is good a bit strange but definitely good.
