One little snowflake falls on my nose. It makes me shiver from my head to my toes. Two little snowflakes get in my eyes. Blink! Blink! What a surprise!
This little book is a wonderfully child-sized celebration of snow. A little girl, bundled up in her warm snowsuit, plays outside with her dog on a cold winter day. As the snowflakes begin to fall, she counts them from one to five, delighting as they land on her tongue, chin, and hand. Inevitably there are too many to count, but the blizzard that ensues gives the enthusiastic youngster the chance to make snow angels and revel in the piles of snow that cover her house — and the world. As Siddals' rhyming text builds in excitement, so do Sayles' pastel illustrations, which begin by focusing on the individual snowflake and gradually pull back to reveal "Millions of snowflakes in my hair./Snowflakes falling everywhere!" After reading and rereading this joyous picture book, children will be watching the sky for signs of snow.
