Abigail Walters and her best friends, Alli and Cami (better known as AlliCam), have planned and practiced for the cheerleading squad since third grade. Abigail keeps lists in her journal of all the things she plans for. But no matter how many lists she makes, she can't shake the fact that sixth grade is a series of a few ups and downs, and the downs are devastating. First, Abigail doesn't make the pom-pom squad (she's only an alternate); and second, she gets "Old Hawk," aka Miss Hendrick, as her homeroom and language arts teacher. Then Old Hawk's homework assignment pairs Abigail with the school's biggest loser, Gabby Marcos! Anyone who's ever been through sixth grade or is anticipating sixth grade will sympathize with Abigail's problems, which seem huge and insurmountable at first. But Abigail hangs in there, and readers will celebrate when she has a major breakthrough.
