Easy January-Themed Resources to Ring in 2019

Grades PreK–K, 1–2, 3–5

With the new year comes the opportunity to reengage students in lessons like language arts, math, reading, and writing. Since students will be returning refreshed from an extended holiday break, they’ll be ready to dive back into learning with fun and enriching activities devoted to all things winter, Martin Luther King Day, and of course, the new year.

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to save time, having all your materials organized and ready for action will be critical to achieving your goal. Scholastic Teachables gives you easy-to-grab-and-go materials that students love, including monthly and thematic packs for 3 distinct grade bands. With more than 30 pages of curated activities for thematic teaching, each of these packs helps you tie seasonal content-area lessons together and is specifically designed to support whole-class lessons, small-group teaching, independent work, and family engagement.

The grades PreK–K pack includes fun early-learning activities and strategies to help you and your students celebrate everything related to New Years and the winter season. With mini-books, sing-along songs about penguins and Martin Luther King Day, number and letter work, cold weather animal riddle poems, and more, your students will transition back into the learning groove with ease!

The grades 1–2 pack is the perfect way to ring in the new year and help your students learn about important January holidays. The pack includes teaching pages in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday; a civil rights word find; 20 writing prompts about topics like snow, penguins, and civil rights; math practice; and more.

The grades 3–4 pack features New Year’s Day teaching pages to help students explore the meaning of “starting new” along with fun and engaging wintery ideas to brighten up your classroom. Also included are 15 January-themed writing prompts, 20 winter-related math problems, a coordinate graphing art activity, and more.
