April 21, 2015 Fun Friday Surprise: the Activity is the Prize! By Allie Magnuson
Grades PreK–K, 1–2

To celebrate all of our hard work during the week, we reserve Fridays for fun. To that end, I usually have a planned activity for the kids on Friday afternoons. Past activities have included a movie with popcorn, outside recess, music and painting, and free choice. But it’s spring now, the end of the year is fast approaching, and we are all antsy. I wanted to try a different approach to our Fun Friday. I found a bunch of toy capsules (a childhood favorite) and filled each one with a strip of paper naming a different activity. I put them all in a bin, and every Friday each student gets to pick a capsule. They love opening them up and seeing which fun activity they've "won." Nobody has argued about what they get to do.

Here are a few that I've used, but ideas for fun activities are limited only by your imagination.
