10 Things I'm Thankful for This Season

By Allie Magnuson
Grades PreK–K, 1–2

To prepare my class for Thanksgiving, I share with them ten things in my personal life that I am thankful for, and why I am thankful for them. This helps my students understand that some of the things they might take for granted in their own lives are actually things for which they should feel gratitude. Once I model for them the different, everyday qualities and people in my life that make me grateful, it is easier for them to articulate what they themselves are thankful for and why. And after all, isn't that the reason for the season?

This week, take a rare look at my personal life with my top ten list of things I'm thankful for:

    10. My City

I am thankful for the city I live in, Las Vegas, because of its warm weather, beautiful landscapes, and bright lights.

    9. My School

I am thankful for the school where I teach, because of the pretty courtyard, my large classroom, and the strong sense of community among families.

    8. My Colleagues

I am thankful for my colleagues because they make me laugh, they support me, and they are good teachers.

    My Colleagues Being Silly

    7. My Students

I am thankful for my students because they let me teach them and help them grow. They are sweet, kind, and generous with compliments, even when I'm not at my best!
