Cocos (Keeling) Islands

Pearl S. Buck was born in West Virginia and taken as an infant to Zhenjiang, in Jiangsu province, China. The daughter of Presbyterian missionaries, she grew up speaking Chinese as well as English. She has written eighty-five books and is the most widely translated American author to this day. She was the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, the Pulitzer Prize and the William Dean Howells Award. She died in 1973.
