Jan Carr was born in upstate New York and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from Cornell University, she worked as a teacher, a film editor, and a production assistant for the Children's Television Workshop. She was an associate editor and writer for Sesame Street Parent's Newsletter before going to work for a publisher of children's books. Since becoming a full-time writer, Carr has written more than 50 books for children, including the well-received picture books Big Truck and Little Truck, Greedy Apostrophe: A Cautionary Tale, Dappled Apples, Frozen Noses, and Splish Splash Spring, as well as the middle grade novel The Elf Of Union Square.
